R2-D2 (known in Latin America as Arturito) is a fictional character from the Star Wars Universe. He is an astromech droid, counterpart and friend of C-3PO.
According to George Lucas, “R2-D2 came about when we were dubbing American Graffiti. One night we were working late and we were looking for Reel 2, Dialogue 2. Suddenly someone shouted “R2-D2.” Both Walter Murch, who was mixing the film, and I liked that name so much that we decided to stick with it.”
